NO Golf Course in
Occoneechee State Park

Senate Bill 700 Item 381 Occoneechee Land Swap
Over 99% of the Virginia Citizens are Opposed to a Privately Owned Golf Course/Land Swap in Occoneechee State Park.  We have the evidence.  Take a look for yourself.

Bottom line 10% to 20% or 3,200 to 6,400 Mecklenburg citizens support the land swap and golf course out of 32,000 Mecklenburg County citizens.  In the rest of Virginia nearly 100% of the citizens are opposed to the golf course or land swap because they stand to gain nothing from it.  So we have 3,200 to 6,400 people in the ENTIRE state of Virginia that support the land swap/golf course out of 7,000,000 citizens.  Thus over 99% of the citizens of Virginia are opposed to a golf course in Occoneechee State Park or a land swap for the 23 acres.

The Following Politicians will decide the fate of Occoneechee State Park by Tuesday.  Which of them will vote AGAINST 99% of the citizens.  Call them and voice your opinion!!!

"We just want a few acres." "It's a Small price to pay."

The two quotes above have been repeated many times by some people in Clarksville in regards to Indians in Mecklenburg County. And below are the results.   See the entire article.

This was an emergency survey, made in such haste, because the site was about to be destroyed by the construction of a new railroad bridge over the very heart of the burial site.  Upon the completion of the survey the site was pushed into the Staunton River. The earth was to be used to build cofferdam to protect the workmen building the bridge piers.  Actually hundreds of burials were pushed into the river.  Great quantities of human bones, human teeth, shells, fired stones and broken clay pottery could be seen rolling over and over before the blades of the giant bulldozers.”  The Story of the Occoneechees published, Judge Tisdale 1953

"Let the developers buy the land they need for their golf course. Why should we the taxpayers foot the cost for a development that only benefits a few? As a voting tax paying citizen of the state of Virginia, Mecklenburg county, I will vote against every possible politician in office at this time if this development is granted the land."  John S. Ward

The Sam Snead Group is seeking to take two millions dollars worth of your public land in Occoneechee State Park on Federal Public land for a privately owned golf course.

The Sam Snead Group has got local real estate developers to push business leaders and politicians into trying to force the hand of the State Park people (Department of Conversation and Recreation) and the US Army Corp of Engineers.  Politicians are saying that local people want the Golf Course but they do not.

Based upon going door to door in Mecklenburg County we have found that 80 to 90% of the people do not want the golf course on public lands.  We are finding that democracy is not working in Mecklenburg County and Virginia.

Only by people voicing their opinions on this will we be able to stop the politicians from giving our land away.

Facts

  • Additional Sam Snead Golf Courses are planned for Virginia State Parks once Occoneechee is done.

  • A few people stand to gain millions by you giving millions of dollars of your land.  There seems to be a conflict of interest with primary leaders pushing the golf course since they are in the real estate business and likely to reap a handsome profit from real estate around the golf course.

  • Golf financing experts say now is not a good time to build a new golf course unless it is really a real estate development in disguise.

  • The land being proposed is sacred and hallowed ground of the Occoneechee Indians.  This is the place of one of the first massacres of Indians in the country which led to a national extermination policy.

  • The land contains some of the county's only 100 year old hard wood trees which rest on virgin rolling hills.

  • Sam Snead's Group wants prime lake front property free from you so they can become wealthier and thus have the power to take more land.
